Military housing clause and breaking a lease?

My husband is in the Navy and we are getting ready to move to San Diego where he is stationed on the USS Nimitz and apparently the carrier will be undergoing a home port change at the end of the year.. We are looking for an apartment now but are unsure of how long to get the lease for and what my husband and I have learned is that the Navy's time line tends to be a guesstimate so we don't really know how many months to lease an apartment for.. Now I know that there is a military housing clause but does it have to be written in the lease? Do you have to pay the fees in order to break the lease if you use the military housing clause? Thanks for your help!
Military housing clause and breaking a lease?
The military clause no longer has to be written into the lease in order for it to apply. One important factor to consider is that your husband must specifically be on the lease. If you are the only signer, you are not eligible for the provisions of the SCRA. I just wrote an article about this subject: http://paycheck-chronicles.military.com/…

Good luck to you!
Military housing clause and breaking a lease?
yes the military clause must be written in.

with a homeport change that would qualify you to break the lease with 30 days notice without penalty.. as Long as that clause is in there.
Under the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act, a lease can be broken when you receive PCS orders. A military clause is helpful, but not required.

Quoting: %26quot;The Servicemembers’ Civil Relief Act (SCRA), formerly known as the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act, is federal law. Although the SCRA provides some protection, it is always smart to include a military clause within your rental agreement.

A “military clause” is a provision in a rental contract that allows a Soldier to break a residential lease because of a number of service-related situations. A military clause provides more protection than the SCRA.

The SCRA allows termination of leases in only some circumstances. Specifically, the SCRA allows for termination of a lease: upon entry into military service; when a Soldier receives military orders for a change of permanent station (PCS orders); or when a Soldier receives military orders to deploy in support of a military operation for 90 or more days. The SCRA also allows a Soldier’s spouse who has entered a joint lease with the Soldier to terminate the lease under these conditions.%26quot;

Do you regret not going to college first out of high school instead of enlisting in the military?

This question is intended for the enlisted military.

I have been in the United States Navy for 2 years now.

I am first generation of Salvadorian decent, born in the United States. When my parents came to the United States one of their dreams was to raise their kids in a better educational environment that they never had in El Salvador. I am the oldest child out of 3 so graduating with a high school diploma was something my parents were really happy about. But, when it came to the next step out of high school that was when I got really confused about my future. I wanted to go to college but, I had no way of figuring out how to pay for it. I took a break for a year after graduation to figure out what I want to do with my life.

So I went in the direction of the military so I can get some leadership skills and a way for the government to pay for my college education. At first my parents didn't agree with my decision. Especially my father he didn't want me to risk my life working for the government, and he even told me one time that %26quot;I rather work in a factory for 20 years then to join the military%26quot;. My family wanted me to continue my education right out of high school and they were expecting more out of me. But, I didn't listen to them and I went in the Navy anyway. I figure I try to make my family proud since I am the very first person in my entire family history to join the military.

In the beginning everything went alright for me. But, as time came by it got to the point that maybe the military wasn't the best decision for me. Don't get me wrong. I don't regret enlisting in and I'm not saying that the military is a wrong path to follow. Sometimes I just feel like this isn't my full potential of what I want to be as an adult. Maybe not even that but, my ship (USS Carl Vinson) has been in the shipyards since 2005 and won't be making a port change to San Diego until 2010. By that time I'll be on my last year in the Navy if I decide to get out.

So I haven't really worked on my real job or done some traveling just because I will spend most of my first enlistment in the shipyards sweeping, swabing the decks and painting around the ship. Which most likely demotivates me from staying in the Navy. But, I am half way done so I will see how this second half of my enlistment goes. My parents eventually accepted the fact that I am in the military and are proud of me for it. But, I feel that this is not enough for me. I think college would have had better preparation for me. I remember I was reading an article by a military veteran saying that %26quot;military experience is nothing compared to a college degree%26quot;. But, then again maybe I wouldn't have taken college seriously because I didn't take high school that seriously either. Perhaps I would have just dropped out of college.

I have a few college courses here in the Navy. But, it's not the same as going to college full time without having work following you all the time 24/7. It's a good thing I fully paid off my GI Bill. But, I think it's just going to suck that I will be gradutating at an older age then if I were to just go to college right out of high school. Perhaps this kind of mentality will help me mature better and do better in college then just the immature kid that I was before I joined the Navy. I used to take advantage of things and took things for granted without even saying thank you before I joined the Navy. But, now that I don't have the same freedom as I used to have as a civilian. I realize just how important it is to appreciate things in life even in the small things.

I just want to know if there is anyone out there that's either in the military or prior military that can tell me if they ever regretted not going to college first and give an explanation of why or why not. I would also appreciate any motivational advise that you can give me. I would greatly appreciate your answer.

Having a college degree is no guarantee of having a job. If one is going to go to any school, a trade school (electrical, plumbing, etc) is the best bet. However, you can get job experience in the military that no civilian school can offer. Besides the military schools, there's hands on training. Where else can you go to school, get paid, free food, free boarding, free text books, free tutoring and pay raises?

I took college courses while on active duty (on shore and at sea) and used those credits toward my degree, which actually means squat right now. It meant squat when I got it because my job/jobs didn't require one...where I wanted to work. I just enjoyed learning.

My son went to plumbing school, apprenticed and is now #3 in a new construction plumbing company (at 38 years old) and will most likely take over the company in a couple of years when the owner retires...if he doesn't come back to the east coast and start his own business.

(USN retired 1965 - 85)

I seriously and sincerely regret not having joined the military right out of high school.
I got one degree on active duty. Then went to college full time when I retired. It's all good.
I'm glad I went into the military first. I grew up, became more mature, learned responsibility, appreciation, etc...

I wouldn't have appreciated college right out of HS. I see so many kids dropping out, or failing because they really don't understand how much is paid into schooling, or how important their grades are.
Yes.

Life would have been so different having gone to college first. One thing most of the other people responding failed to point out would be that being a college graduate would probably made them an Officer.

Military life is different for enlisted and officers. No doubt.

I did my job well, got out and went to college. I can only imagine where I might be today if I had done it the other way around and come out of the Navy with rank rather than rating.

g-day!
I am glad that I joined while in high school. If I was going to go to college why not have them help pay? I'm not planning on having a civilian job anyway. I know that having a degree is always good but I will cross that road when I get to it.
I joined the USMC as a college freshmen at 19, missed school for about a year and a half then after it's over, I went back to school and served as a reservist. No regrets.
Never is late to go back to school and i really think that u will have the opportunity again and do what u really want to do in ur life. I'm 100% sure that u are going to do better than if u had gone from high school because u are more mature and u see the things different now. Keep going on and fight for your dreams. Don't give up!!!!!

  • Question on How do we use a Proxy?

    Hi,

I saw a video on http://www.plentyoftorrents.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=167 that you simply have to put an IP and use the port 8080. But does it means that if I have the ip of a friend of mine, and use 8080 as port(change in connection on firefox), does it work as if i'm using anonymously the internet of my friend?? I don't really get it...
Question on How do we use a Proxy?
The port 8080 is used for proxies so don't change it.

The Ip address must belong to a server which is meant to act as a proxy. If you don't want any technical nuances you can use proxy softwares instead, I use Hide-Ip-Platinum, it select the proxy for me though it's somewhat slow.

Question on How do we use a Proxy?
You can check out a list of proxy servers from http://www.freeproxy.ru/en/free_proxy/cg鈥?/a>

Google it, and you'll have lots to choose from.

I've tried this - it works, but it's slow.

In IE/Firefox, under the network section, you can add in a proxy address. Just key in any proxy server address, and your surfing will be routed via the proxy server.
hello i have this article that will give you enough knowledge on proxy and proxy sites that can give you access to some block sites.

I need a little bit of help with Utorrent. a small speed error..?

First of all, my bandwidth at the moment will let uttorrent download my stuff at like 90kbs the fastest. but i got home after about a week and started up my internet and it was going pretty slow. like 20 kbs. so i looked on youtube and saw how to speed it up, i'm sure you've seen it. change the port, change this, change that. and my download went back to like 80 kbs. i was like wow that's great. :P

for whatever rason i can't remember i restarted my computer and now uttorent is going about 5kbs a second. it's bullshit.

i knwo i should portforward utorrent but no matter how long i spend on it or how hard i try, it won't ******* portforward. i mean i'm not incredibly smart on computers, but on scale from 1-10 i'm at least a 7.

i just can't portforward and i want my kbs back up to 90 kbs or higher :(

    any help?
I need a little bit of help with Utorrent. a small speed error..?
The speed of your download with UTorrent is measured by the ratio and amount of seeders and leechers. The more seeders to leechers, the faster your download will be. I'd recommend at least a 2:1 seeders to leachers ratio and having at least 50 seeders for that torrent to ensure fast downloads. Hope this helps.
I need a little bit of help with Utorrent. a small speed error..?
not 100% how to port forward but you need to log into your router thing provided by your internet providor but are most likely getting low speed because not a lot of people are seeding. all torrent are different, some fast, some slow
If this tutorial doesn't help, nothing will:

    http://www.bootstrike.com/Articles/BitTo鈥?/a>

Sometimes your ISP will throttle BitTorrent traffic. Also speed is greatly dependent on the number of Seeds and Peers.
yeah your best bet is to find out the IP of your router. might be

192.168.0.1 and look underneath the router for the login details login via http so open a browser and type http://192.168.0.1 and type in login details then set a port you want to forward for bittorrent/utorrent and forward it in the router. restart the router so it takes effect and it should be going faster again. btw u might also find out the IP on the bottom of the router or side.

Can I change my USB 1.1 port to USB 2.0?

My desktop computer has two handy %26quot;USB 1.1 ports%26quot; on the front (it also has 2 or 3 in the back).

I'd like to upgrade my front USB ports from 1.1 to 2.0 using a %26quot;USB 2.0 PCI card%26quot; if at all possible.

So, my question is this: If I buy a USB 2.0 card that has 2 %26quot;external%26quot; and 2 %26quot;internal%26quot; ports, can I use that card's 2 internal ports to %26quot;change%26quot; my two exixting USB 1.1 ports so that they become version 2.0? If so, how is this done?

I'd like to have the USB 2.0 capability on the front of my computer where my 2 USB 1.1 ports are now.

If this can't be done, how are the %26quot;internal%26quot; USB 2.0 ports on a PCI card supposed to be used?

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.
Can I change my USB 1.1 port to USB 2.0?
    Motherboard dependant

Pentium 4 or modern motherboards should support USB 2.0
Can I change my USB 1.1 port to USB 2.0?
i dont think u can without some serious work.
usb is a hardware device so u cannot change it. usb 1 or usb 2 r electronic circuits. u just cannot upgrade a physical circuit only thing is replaing u cannot replace the circuit so u have to go for a change in motherboard means u have to go for upgrading. find out in hardware shop if there is any usb 2.0 add on card is available or not just have a look at the following link
Yes, you can add the USB 2.0 ports using a standard expansion card for a desktop. They sell for about $10 or so. Just search for %26quot;usb 2%26quot; %26quot;card%26quot; on your favorite shopping site.
a usb adapter go to frys and ask for an adapter
You will not be able to change the FRONT USB ports without some major dismantling of the motherboard, ect. However, the PCI card with the USB will slide into the PCI card slot and you will have two inside you computer, and two on the BACK of your computer. If you want easily accessable USB ports, I would suggest an external USB hub, that attatches to one USB port and splits the port, make sure to get one with seperate power, so it doesnt suck out your power from the internal components.

i really never understood internal USB ports, I find no use for them.
You'll have to change your motherboard to a 2.0
this depends on if your front USB ports are hardwired to your motherboard or plug in. If they plug in then you might be in luck just unplug them and plug them into your internal pci card. This should convert them to 2.0
You may not have to change your mother board. You will have to look how the front ports attach to the front of your case. In most cases, they are just a metal box that is clipped on the inside of the case facing out, and have a cable running to the mother board, or to an additional controller. I am not sure if ver 1 and ver 2 ports are wired exactly the same, but they %26quot;should%26quot; be.

Open up your case and look at your front usb ports. How do they connect to the mother board? Look for those cables and see how they connect. Next find you an adapter that will support the %26quot;external%26quot; ports. If you shop around you may even find some that come with the ports that you can put in the front. These will go into a Cdrom or Floppy drive bay. You would then just not use the old ones in the front. Each card will tell you how to plug the external ones on it's board, if you want to try to use the existing ones.
This might be possible but there are several different variables that will effect this.

First your front USB is not connected directly to the motherboard but rather through a %26quot;dongle%26quot;. With front USB ports there are three different standard for doing this, the most common is a plug on the motherboard with 10 pins (2 rows by 5 collums) that look just like jumpers. The second standard is a standard usb port located inside the case that the front ports just plug into. Lastly is a propritery, where the will be one large plug on the motherboard that is used to connect the powerswitch, LEDs, USB and anything else on the front of the case. If the third is the case you really cannot set your front USB up how you would like.

The other factor is the USB 2.0 card you purchase. Most cards only have external ports for the back, a few of them have a standard USB port for the inside of the system, and I have only seen one with the 10 pin jumper.

One option to persue if this is important to you is get the USB card with a internal port, there are a couple companies that make USB hubs that fit into one of the 3.5%26quot; drive bays.
well, it is quite impossible to literally change a USB 1.1 to a USB 2.0, you will obviously have to go out and purchase new ones

installation is simple enough, even for the drivers.

don't fret though, this is no big deal really, I did it on my brothers comp last week, didn't even cost me too much =).
You must buy USB 2.0 PCI card with 2 internal ports. You must also buy 2 USB 2.0 extension cables (70cm is enough). Then you must open your computer case, remove your front USB's physically and put extension cables instead of them.

This is only and best solution.
    if u have old motherboard, i think u can't

if u have p4 motherboard it should support USB 2.0
Yes it is possible. In 10 years I have NEVER seen any %26quot;hardwired%26quot; USB on a case or motherboard. Manufacturers know we like to upgrade, that's why EVERYTHING is modular. The PCI USB card must have the PIN style connector as the internal USB as I have yet to see a case with the USB plug internal. If the above are true and you do this, read the PCI card's instructions CAREFULLY as it is VERY IMPORTANT where the VCC+ VCC- GND and PWR are connected and doing it wrong CAN start a fire (I have seen it!).
You are going to have to look athe the internal set up for your pc and find out some details.

Read mloeffler52's answer. I just saw it, and so I am sending you to him! hahaha

    Problem with utorent!?

When i started utorrent i checked the port to see if it was right and it said it was correct now im currently at 89.1% completed the download and it stoped moving, the port says that it is incorrect why did the port change and how do i fix this.
    Problem with utorent!?
    hi

this problem was mine a few days ago i tried this

    Go to Options | Preferences.

Click on Connections and uncheck the %26quot;Randomize port each time uTorrent starts%26quot; checkbox.

try to pause or stop and run again

    restart the Utorrent

check your firewall maybe it is blocking it
    Problem with utorent!?
    Go to Options | Preferences.

Click on Connections and uncheck the %26quot;Randomize port each time uTorrent starts%26quot; checkbox.
...and check under connection 2 and 4

    =UPnP and NAT-PMP

if your icon is red or yellow and not green ,maybe firewall is blocking U torrent. You should put u torrent under exeptions

smarty do not copy/%26amp;paste from other users!

    --------------------------------------鈥?br>
randomizing port -you can leave this unchecked but it s good to have port over 50000 even better over 60000.

check all of three other check boxes under connections.

=UPnP and NAT-PMP and firewall thing.

tell me what color is your light
    AYA

I never heard of a warning about an incorrect port BUT the optimal settings for utorrent are here

    http://triponic.com/guidestutorials/opti鈥?/a>

To me it looks like the seeder of your torrent has stopped seeding it, go to to web site where you selected this download and see if there are any recent comments stating the same problem you have (download stopped at 89.1%). It also happens if the torrent is too old and with close to none seeders.

    Good Luck!!

How do i change my external monitor from cloning the primary to acting as a secondary display (on a laptop)?

I have an HP Pavilion xf328 with XP and a VGA-out in the back. so the laptop has the built in screen, and i have plugged in a 17%26quot; lcd to the external port. when i change the mode so it outputs to both the internal and external lcd's, it just clones the primary display, however i want to be able to use it as a secondary display so i can hook it up to a projector and use some presentation software over the secondary display, and control the program via the primary display. i looked in the display props, but it will not register as having a secondary monitor hooked up, i installed the drivers that came with the laptop and the display props do mention:

    %26quot;Display:

    (Multiple Monitors) on S3 Graphics TwisterK HP%26quot;

but wont let me enable the secondary, or anything really related to configuring the secondary as far as i can tell...

    ...any ideas?
How do i change my external monitor from cloning the primary to acting as a secondary display (on a laptop)?
Click on Control Panel then Display then Settings. You should see two virtual monitors labeled 1 and 2. Click on 2 and then click on %26quot;Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor%26quot;. This option will be located right above Identify, Troubleshoot, and Advanced. Now minimize any program you have up and drag it onto the 2nd monitor.
How do i change my external monitor from cloning the primary to acting as a secondary display (on a laptop)?
Make sure you connect your external monitor to your laptop and power it on before you power up your laptop, that will let Windows XP recognize the external monitor. Now, when you go to Display Properties-%26gt;Settings, you should see your external monitor and can set it to its native resolution (for a sharp picture). Be sure you select extending your display to the 2nd monitor.

BTW, you can drag the icon for your 2nd monitor to either the left or the right, and that will use your external to extend from the left or the right of your laptop display.
