Does Comcast throttle me down because I use bittorrent client?

I had a really good cable connection through Comcast, until yesterday I started using bittorrent to download some old movies.



All the time I have bittorrent client on I get dropped internet connections, websites become unavailable, DNS requests fail, %26quot;INTERNET%26quot; light on my router gets yellow, which means that it loses or resets the connection to the cable modem. I never saw this light going yellow before.



Now I stopped the bittorrent client and connections seems to be good again.

I tried to bypass the router and connect my PC directly to the modem, but I still had the same problem with connections as long as bittorrent client is running.



Bittorrent by it's nature causes many incoming connections from other clients and they may download chunks of data from me, as well as many outgoing connections.



I don't think Comcast is supposed to look at the contents of the traffic, also it shouldn't matter for internet provider how many TCP connections there are.



But that's what I observe: quality of my cable connection correlates to if I have bittorrent running or not.



So is this possible that Comcast tries to hamper my connection in some ways based on the torrent client? Should I just change TCP port to something different so that middlemen can't guess what is that? Or maybe Comcast penalizes me based on the number of incoming connections?



Any guesses or insights insights into this problem?

Comcast doesn't have a right to block torrenting. But they do have a right to manage their networks. When you open a ton of TCP connections, whether it's because you're torrenting or because you're hosting a server, you slow down the Internet for everyone else in your neighborhood.



Comcast's current policy is that anyone using more than 75% of their allotted bandwidth for an extended period of time gets pushed to the end of the line. They don't block your packets, but they'll give them a lower priority. So if you're trying to torrent a movie and someone else wants to check their email, Comcast's servers will let that other person's request go through first. You'll have to wait at the back of the queue.

How can I block a specific Mac program from accessing the local network?

On an Intel desktop Mac, I want to stop a video game from accessing the local network without disrupting any other networking for other software or system programs. I looked through the firewall options in System Prefs, but I didn't see a way to stop just that program from communicating with the network. I then tried to change the port number for networking within the game itself. It didn't seem to work. Basically I want the game to still work on that machine, just not be able to see or communicate with other games on the local area network. Little Snitch is a pretty good utility for preventing specific apps from getting network access, and lets you set specific rules to allow or block addresses, ports and protocols. Usually, the only time i can't connect to Battle.Net is because of the router. I know it sounds crazy, but if you set a security account on the router, it can block incoming connections (battle.net).



I never seen Blizzard close Battle.net for maintenance ever, but that's always a possibility.

The mouse is faulty. I had this problem after I (accidentally) dropped my mouse. I had to unplug and replug just like you.

You can either try to change the properties within the registry to allow read and write or try changing them from the properties page of the device itself.

Another option would be to manually install and set it up by selecting advanced setup and from there you should be able to change the settings to whatever you need, of course you do also need to make sure that there are no other devices listed as using the com1 port or you will get conflict errors and it will not allow you to change it.

What is the easiest/cheapest way to network between two computers on the internet?

My friend and I would like to share information with one another. We don't live in the same house, but are pretty close and use the same internet provider. We have dynamic IPs, but they rarely if ever change. Is there a way we can do this? I know it probably requires three things, sharing setup properly, some sort of ftp or similar program, and the settings on routers changed for port forwarding or something, but beyond that I haven't a clue how/where to begin.

my best guess is VPN but your router may not support this feature. In order to do this you would need to reconfigure your router to connect to your friends. Your only problem is the dynamic address. VPN profiles usage force you to use static addresses. If your wanting to move files remote desktop might be something to look into or PPTP. Good Luck!

You use sudo - not root. I have enabled root in the past on Ubuntu (look it up with google if you really want to) but I no longer bother because root is not needed. I get prompted for my sudo password every time I try to do something that requires root access. The account that was created during the installation was given sudo privileges.

I used to get all my mail delivered to my Yahoo address. then something changed.

In the %26quot;add account%26quot; section to set up POP access, there is no option to indicate that you are accessing an SSL server. Sure you can change the port address (in this case 995) but not tell yahoo that is it is an SSL. Therefore it returns no mail.

I have followed the instructions on the Yahoo help file labled %26quot;Can I get my other email (work, school, etc.) through Yahoo! Mail?%26quot;. It basically tells you how to POP mail from your other accounts into Yahoo. Problem is - IT DOESN'T WORK. My internet download speed is 176 kbps and upload is 98 kpbs and my bittorent download is 2.37 gb and 1.99 gb is completed,time elapsed is 1 day 10 hours and the speed is 22.9 kB/s (avg.17.2 kB/s).

The seeders are 83 (648) and peers are 5(482) why is it so slow and how should i speed it up and will it help if i change the port number and how should i open a port.How should i get it to 100 kb/s or 500 kB/s.

make the upload speed of the torrent to 15 kbps or max 30 kbps...never keep it (Upload speed) to unlimited. Set download speed to unlimited.



Also that depends upon seeders and leeches speed of data transfer... because they are the servers who have your file.

I have a 2 Mbps connection and with same settings my download speed is 230 kbps for some files and 40-50 kbps on other files..

Hey, you kinda posted this in the wrong section, but yeah =P



Anyways, torrent speeds aren't based on your internet download speed, it's based on seeders and peers (as you have already listed) and other people downloading.



The more seeder/peers there are (seeders are more useful than peers), the faster your download will go. Likewise, the faster the seeder seeds, the faster your download goes...but a lot of people limit their seeding speed so that it will not take too much of their computer's resources to help other people download (like me, I limirt it to 10kb/s).



So essentially, there's nothing you can do to speed up torrents...just hope that more people will finish downloading it and seed!

Security IP cams online....?

Ok this is for the high end IT tech people. I know alot of people will throw stuff at me. I know what I am talking about, please only answer if you know the answer.



I bought a Trendnet TV-IP110(w).

I have modem %26gt; router %26gt; wireless

The DHCP is on the router, and wireless is just acting as a gateway, no firewalls or anything.



If on the router i forward port 80 to an IP for one of the cams i can view it by going to my public IP, IE http://25.255.255.25, i get promoted with the cams login info and i can view the cam.



Now that is fine for one cam, but i have 4 cams.



How can i make this an easy way to view ANY of the cams?

They all have different IPs. thus i have to change the port that is forwarded each time?

Please read all this carefully. I have a few questions i need asked and don't want to repeat myself cuz ive asked this several times with no help :[



Its the iPod with the four touch buttons in a row above the touch wheel. So its old, but I took the iPod apart and charged the battery with another iPod taken apart. So the battery is fine.



I tried plugging it into a wall charger, and the iPod lights up, knowing its being plugged into something but doesn't say its charging.



I tried plugging it into the usb port on a PC-No response or recognition on iTunes but the iPod lit up again, again not charging.

so i decided that i want to be able to route my Internet traffic from school to my computer so that i can go on blocked sites that shouldnt be blocked. and dont be all trollin saying %26quot;im a school admin and you shouldnt do that%26quot; well idc or %26quot;look at porn on your own computer%26quot; im not a porn viewing person. i know i could use other proxies and stuff online already but i want to make my own. so



i have openssh installed already and i changed the port from 22 to 85 and i did allowusers nic or something like that. oh and im using ubuntu 10.04. im kinda a newb at ssh and proxy stuff. im going to be using firefox on the comp at school so would all i do is change the proxy settings to my user an ip and port, and if so how is that formated is it like nic@2313212
